Winning is not enough

posted on: Mon-Aug-24-2009 by Darren Langham

After just reading Sir Jackie Stewart’s autobiography ‘Winning is not enough’, it is interesting to see how some famous people portray their own brand. For all of you who don’t know who Jackie Stewart was, he was three times Formula 1 Champion in the late 60’s and early 70’s and owned his own F1 team in the late 90’s.

One key aspect of his brand is attention to detail and being well prepared when dealing with any project he had involvement in. Jackie also believed in trying to build relationships with people and showing them respect. You could say that these are values within in his brand.

Whether he was involved in a competitive sporting event, working in the media, running a business or working with large organizations, Jackie would aim to be the best he could and learn from experienced people around him. This adds to his overall vision of seeing things through.

He applied his personality through getting to know people, whether they were sporting personalities, business leaders or even royalty. He dealt with these people through integrity and genuinely showing he cared. These two elements make the experience a successful one, which can be applied to all aspects of his life.

From a visual perspective he takes pride in the way he dresses, and is renowned for the stylish manner in his track days. When he was racing he had a tartan band applied to his helmet, the tartan theme was then carried on to the livery of the Stewart Ford Racing Team. This tartan incorporated the Ford blue and the Stewart family tartan.

Making the most of your brand add great value to what you do. If you’d like to discuss a branding project for your organization call twelve20 today on 0121 288 4227 or email us@twelve20.co.uk.
